5 good reasons to eat a protein-rich and salty breakfast

Last updated onSeptember 15, 2022
Goodbye toast and jam. Olivier Bourquin, a nutritionist for over 25 years, simply explains the 5 good reasons to favor a protein breakfast in the morning.

#1 Stable blood sugar and energy levels from the morning.

Blood sugar indicates the level of sugar in the blood. To avoid glycemic spikes followed by reactive hypoglycemia (drop in energy, great hunger, craving for sugar, etc...), we seek to regulate it through diet, by consuming less foods rich in fast sugars.

#2 Less snacking in the morning.

With a protein-rich breakfast, no need to snack during the morning. You will easily reach satiety and "hold on" until noon without any problem, without being hungry! We then let our organs rest for about 4 hours, and that's ideal!

#3 You increase your protein intake for the day.

And that's good, because we generally lack protein. In addition, in the morning, our hormonal functioning commands a strong secretion of lipases to metabolize fats, as well as a strong secretion of proteases to properly metabolize proteins. These, later, during the oh-so-important sleep, will allow for the process of manufacture and repair of cellular content.

#5 You boost your dopamine - the neurotransmitter of motivation, energy.

Indeed, the precursors of dopamine are two amino acids, phenylalanine and tyrosine, present in protein-rich foods.

#6 The possibilities are endless!

Eggs of all sorts (with runny yolk it’s top-notch!), cheese, salmon, Parma ham and charcuterie, even why not hummus? Not to mention some oilseeds, dried or fresh fruits to buffer the acidity of proteins!
We can see you coming: No, you will not have any cholesterol problems eating eggs in the morning - this is a false belief that has a hard shell!
